The Eastern Cape Department of Education has condemned the senseless killing of a teacher from Maxaka Junior Secondary School in Ngqeleni, Libode.
Department spokesperson, Malibongwe Mtima, said 56-year-old Lulama Groom was tragically shot and killed on Monday morning while on her way to work.
“The incident occurred at around 07:45 in the morning when she was dropping off another teacher at Dingilizwe Senior Primary School,” said Mtima.

The Department also called on law enforcement authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
Police have confirmed that a case of murder has been registered and urged anyone with information to contact their nearest police station.
“May Lulama Groom’s memory be a blessing to all who knew her, and may her commitment to education inspire future generations,” the Department concluded.
