Alleged KFC shooter in custody

File

A 45-year-old man has appeared in court for allegedly shooting a pregnant cashier in the stomach at a KFC drive-through in Zwide in Gqeberha.

Police spokesperson, Captain Andre Beetge, said Sivuyile Pityana, was arrested on Monday this week and made his first court appearance on Wednesday.

He will apply for bail in the New Brighton magistrate court on Monday, 28 January.

Meanwhile, Beetge said the victim, who is four months pregnant, remains stable and her unborn child was unharmed.

The motive for the shooting is still not known and Pityana faces a charge of attempted murder.

The incident occurred at around 23:15 at the fast-food outlet in Koyana Street in Zwide on 13 January, when Pityana allegedly shot the woman through the drive-through window.

Nelson Mandela Bay District Commissioner, Major-General Vuyisile Ncata welcomed the arrest, saying crimes against women and children, as well as serious and violent crimes, especially where firearms are used, takes priority in their fight against crime.
