The Eastern Cape Department of Education has set a target to deliver all learner and teacher support material to all schools by the end of March.
This is according to MEC, Mandla Makupula who unpacked his 2017/2018 Budget and Policy statement to stakeholders in East London on Wednesday.
The Eastern Cape Education Department received 46% of the province's total budget giving Makupula's department a major share of R32.98bn.
Makupula said during his Budget and Policy presentation last week that the department would also focus on increasing the supply of qualified teachers by launching a R15m bursary scheme.
He said the Mathew Goniwe Teacher Development Bursary Scheme would target 200 students pursuing teaching careers in Maths, Science and other scarce skills.
Makupula said R75m had been set aside to assist in teaching and learning.
"I have placed aside an amount of R7 m to assist in teaching and learning just to ensure that the materials for teaching and learning arrives in time. Although things are moving slowly, I know that 80% of all our schools have received their LTSM. Our target is that by end of March all our schools have learner and teacher support materials" he said.
