The Eastern Cape Department of Education has launched its Provincial Schools Governing Body elections, at the Lusikisiki College of Education.
Eastern Cape education MEC Mandla Makupula says SGBs are bodies that fall under the South African schools' act - with a 3 year stay in office.
He told AlgoaFM news that the current bodies were elected in 2012 and that it was time to bring in new blood.
"These are serious elections just like your national, provincial and local government elections. We are working with IEC in conducting them. Today [Friday] was that launch You then choose a particular place, I've taken it to Lusikisiki. We also had district directors from all the districts of the Eastern Cape." says Makupula.
