Eastern Cape police have condemned the robbery of a couple on their farm near Ugie by three unknown suspects.
Spokesperson, Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana says according to reports, the suspects approached one of the victims in the yard on Wednesday evening.
One suspect, who was armed, forced the elderly man back into the house where they demanded bank cards from him and his wife.
The suspects then drove to town with the couple, aged 67 and 65, and withdrew an undisclosed amount of money from their accounts before returning to the farm.
Kinana says the suspects tied the man, but not his wife, and locked them in the bedroom.
They then allegedly used petrol to set the house on fire.
The woman managed to free her husband and both managed to escape through a window and alerted the police.
The suspects fled the scene in an unknown vehicle and no arrests have yet been made.
The couple was taken to hospital for medical care.
A case of house robbery is under investigation.
