Eastern Cape police have launched a manhunt for the gunmen who shot and killed a local government councillor in Lusikisiki and his teenage son.
SAPS has now instituted the 72-hour mobilisation plan to trace at least two suspects who killed the 49-year-old Inquza Hills Councillor in his homestead on Friday night.
Provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana, said his eight-year-old daughter escaped unharmed.
He said at least two gunmen stormed into the councillor’s home in Slovo Park and opened fire, killing his 18-year-old son. Kinana said the father was wounded but succumbed to his injuries in hospital.
The names of the deceased have not yet been released.
“Police are investigating two murder cases and no arrest made at this stage. Investigation continues,” he said.
