EC cops make R2m dagga bust

Police seize large quantity of dagga near Bizana

SAPS

Eastern Cape police have seized a large quantity of dagga valued at R2m during intelligence-driven operations at Bizana.

Provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana, said police intercepted three vehicles travelling from Bizana to Durban early on Wednesday morning.

“Police intelligence further established that the dagga was going to be loaded into trucks in Durban to its final destination in the Western Cape,” he said.

Kinana said police began patrolling the route on Tuesday night scouting for the vehicles that were identified by their intelligence information.

The first vehicle was spotted at around 3 AM on Wednesday and after a chase, the driver abandoned the bakkie and fled.  Police found 53 bags of dagga inside the vehicle.

Kinana said while police were returning to Bizana they spotted the second vehicle and arrested the driver while the passenger managed to escape. 33 bags of dagga were found in the car.

He said police later arrested three people and seized a further 27 bags of dagga inside a panel van.

The three will appear in court in Bizana on Thursday on charges of dealing in and being in the possession of dagga.
