EC cops make breakthrough in Tholeni village murders

A 39-year-old man appeared in court in Butterworth on Tuesday in connection with several murders in Tholeni village near the town.
Bulelani Mabhayhi was charged with 22 counts, including murder, attempted murder, rape and housebreaking.
He was taken in for questioning over the weekend following the murder of 55-year-old Boniswa Lubambo and subsequently charged.
Provincial police spokesperson, brigadier Marinda Mills, says he was remanded in custody and will appear in court again on the 23 August 2012 for a formal bail application.
More than a dozen women and girls were murdered in Tholeni village between 2007 and 2012.
