Eastern Cape police are mourning the loss of a member who was gunned down in his Mthatha home and his firearm stolen.
Provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana, identified the deceased as 48-year-old Detective-Sergeant Mphakameli Mazinywana.
He said the officer, who was stationed at Mthatha Central, was at home in Old Payne location with his wife, when unknown suspects kicked down the door and demanded his firearm.
“They shot him in the upper body, took his service firearm, and escaped. The member succumbed to gunshot injuries,” Kinana said.
A case of murder and house robbery has been registered for investigation and no arrests were made as yet.
