Eastern Cape police have named the policeman who was killed in a shoot-out with armed robbers in Tsolo on Monday.
He was 49-year-old Warrant Officer Mpendulo Mbasane.
Mbasane and other police officials responded to a business robbery late on Monday afternoon when they were engaged in a gunbattle with at least four robbers in New Rest Township.
One suspect was also killed in the shoot-out.
Provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant-General Celiwe Binta, says Mbasane served in the SA Police Service for 26 years.
He is survived by his wife and four minor children.
