An Eastern Cape policeman has been jailed for an effective 20 years after being convicted of killing three people in a dispute over a piece of land.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate said Warrant Officer Ronny Doko was jailed in the High Court sitting in Butterworth this week after he was found guilty on three counts of murder and one of attempted murder.
Doko shot and killed a pastor, a church leader, and a traditional leader, and wounded a fourth person in 2021 in a dispute over a piece of land owned by a church.
IPID spokesperson, Phaladi Shuping, said Doko was sentenced to 20 years on each count of murder, and eight years for attempted murder, adding that the sentences will run concurrently.
“He will effectively serve 20 years imprisonment,” Shuping said.
