Eastern Cape police commissioner, Celiwe Binta, has praised the police members involved in the recent rescue of eight children who were stuck on a sand bank in the middle of the flooded Tina river near Qumbu.
The children were rescued unharmed after apparentley venturing into the water to play on the sand bank.
Police Divers, K9 search and rescue dog handlers from Cradock, Mthatha and East London were mobilized to attend the scene earlier this week.
General Binta says the team had rescued a total of 45 people in the last weeks since December 23rd.
She says these incidents include an incident at Bolothwa between Queenstown and Cofimvaba where 31 people were hauled out of a bus in river water.
The other two rescue operations were at Palmiefontein near the Lesotho Border involving six people and the last one at Tina falls in Qumbu involving the eight children.
