The Eastern Cape Transport Department said that two children have died in a head-on collision on the R-61 near the Qamata Great Place.
Department spokesperson, Unathi Binqose, said the accident happened on Tuesday morning.
He said a Ford Figo with three occupants was travelling from Confinvaba in the direction of Komani, formerly Queenstown, when it was involved in a collision with another car driven by a woman.
He said the cars collided on a sharp bend, killing the two girls, aged between 3 and 9.
Binqose said both drivers sustained critical injuries and were rushed to a hospital.
“It is alleged that speeding and reckless overtaking were the main contributing factors," he said.
