Eastern Cape police are investigating the death of a three-year-old boy who fell into a pit latrine at creche in Mdantsane in East London.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said the incident happened in Unit Six on Thursday.
"The child was taken to hospital and died on Friday.
"The matter was only reported to police after his death," she said.
Naidu said an inquest docket was opened.
Meanwhile, activists from the Khula Community Development Project visited the grieving family on Saturday.
Spokesperson, Petrus Majola, said the family had reached out to him.
He said it was not clear if the creche, which does not have a flush toile, was under any government department or privately owned.
