Eastern Cape authorities said that the death toll from this morning's horror bus accident on the R61 between Ngcobo and Elliot stands at 13.
Provincial Traffic spokesperson, Charles Bramwell, said that 12 people died on the scene of the crash where the 60-seater bus had overturned.
He said the 13th victim died in the All Saints hospital in Ngcobo this afternoon.
Bramwell said of the 45 people who were injured, five were in critical condition and another five were in serious condition.
He said 35 other passengers suffered less serious injuries, but were all taken to hospital for treatment and assessment.
Meanwhile, Eastern Cape Health Department, Sizwe Kupelo, said the crash scene was only cleared late this afternoon.
"We took hours before we cleared the scene due to the nature of the accident. There were two patients who were trapped and it took a long time before we could manage to free them," he said.
Kupelo said the two patients were airlifted to Nelson Mandela Academic Hospital.
