The ANC in the Eastern Cape says Premier Phumulo Masualle, should have reported on the status of mega projects being undertaken in the Eastern Cape.
ANC Provincial Chairperson, Oscar Mabuyane, was responding to questions on Masualle's State of the Province Address at the Eastern Cape Legislature on Friday.
He said the ANC feels strongly about these mega-projects, like the Umzimvubu Dam and the Mthombo refinery project at Coega, which he said were resolutions taken at the party's lekgotla.
Mabuyane said Masualle should have at least reported on it, "even if they are not happening, the public deserves to know."
"Whether these are national projects they need us from the province to speak about them. We must not shy away from them. We must actually be emphatic about them for national to understand that issues of our province are more socio-economic related than socio-political. So, if you address these projects definitely the face of our province is going to be turned around," he said.
He said former president Jacob Zuma did a sod-turning ceremony for the project and "it’s not a question that it can just disappear".
Mabuyane said the Eastern Cape cannot lose these mega-projects.
Meanwhile, Mabuyane welcomed government's commitment to maintaining a 30-day turnaround time for government department to pay their service providers, many of whom are small business owners.
He said government must be "effective and efficient".
"Our SMME's are being killed, are unable to survive, because government is unable to pay within 30 days. We should be acting on that issue (because) you employ people to do their work," he said.
