Police Operations continued throughout the Eastern Cape this past week with members arresting over a thousand people since New Year's eve.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General Swart says this formed part of their efforts to fight against crime, restore public order and improve general safety.
From the 31st of December 2019 until the 7th of January 2020, a total of 1 276 people were arrested for various crimes.
Police arrested a further 150 people for public drinking, being drunk in public and the illegal trade in alcohol.
The majority of drunk driving arrests were in the Motherwell and Mount Road clusters in Port Elizabeth.
