The Eastern Cape Department of Transport says its law enforcement campaign for the 2014/15 Festive Season is well underway, and has yielded positive outcomes thus far.
Department spokesperson, Ncedo Kumbaca says since the beginning of the month, more than 32-thousand vehicles had been stopped and checked, with 3-thousand 527 notices issued.
He says 60 vehicles were discontinued, while 841 Public Transportation Notices were issued.
Kumbaca says in the wake of a number of accidents that have occurred around the province recently, the Department has vowed to intensify its efforts to curb road fatalities.
He says they are going to deploy more than 1 000 traffic officers along the Eastern Cape's most notorious roads, including the N2, N6 and R61, on a 24-hour basis to address the carnage on the roads this festive season.
