Eastern Cape police are investigating a case of child neglect after two toddlers burnt to death on Saturday night at a house in Libode in the Transkei.
Police warrant officer Dineo Koena says the children aged 2 and 5 were left alone in their house with a candle burning while their mother visited a local tavern.
The father works nights as a security guard.
Koena says neighbours were unable to access the burning house as the door was locked.
