Eastern Cape roads claim five lives

At least five people have been killed in two separate road accidents in the Eastern Cape.

Provincial traffic spokesperson, Charles Bramwell says four people were killed in a collision on the N2 between Tsolo and Qumbu on Saturday evening, while one person was killed in an accident in East London on Sunday morning.

"On the N-2 between Mthatha and Qumbu, two vehicles collided head-on. It is alleged that an Isuzu double cab hit a horse, lost control, and then collided head-on with an oncoming VW Polo". Bramwell said.

"Four male occupants in the Polo died instantly, while the driver of the Isuzu was admitted to a Mthatha hopsital in a serious condition." he said.

"In a second accident near Amalinda in East London this morning, a Fiat Uno lost control after the driver hit a barrier. The vehicle overturned, and the driver died instantly". Bramwell said.

He said authorities were investigating.
