At least 5 people were killed in road accidents on Eastern Cape roads since Friday afternoon.
Police spokesperson, WO Basil Seekoei says 3 people - a man, his wife and daughter - were killed after their car collided with a truck on the R62 between Joubertina and Kareedouw at around 3 o'clock on Friday afternoon.
He says the victims were from Joubertina. The driver of the truck escaped unharmed.
Seekoei says in another accident at around 1-30 on Saturday morning, a 22-year old man was killed, after a VW Polo overturned on the R33 between Despatch and Perserverance near Port Elizabeth.
He says two other men, a 19-year old and a 20-year old, were admitted to Cuyler Clinic in Uitenhage and Greenacres Hospital in Port Elizabeth in serious condition.
The cause of the accident is not known.
Police are invesigating cases of culpable homocide.
Meanwhile, a 40 year old man was arrested on charges of drunken driving and culpable homicide, after hitting a pedestrian between Dutywa and Willowvale late on Friday.
Police spokesperson, capt. Jackson Manatha says the pedestrian was injured and rushed to Butterworth hospital in a stable condition.
He says the vehicle overturned, and a 27 year old man, who was a passenger in the car, died at the scene.
Manatha says the driver is expected to appear in court soon.
