Eastern Cape Portfolio Commitee on Education to embark on a school visit programme

Members from the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature's Portfolio Committee on Education will embark on a school visit programme throughout the province.

Committee chairperson, Kholiswa Fihlani, says the purpose of the visit is to assess the state of school readiness and to report on current and new challenges facing schools.

She says issues include learners admission, delivery of textbooks, stationery and the issue of teacher shortages.

Fihlani says members will also address the issue of group copying.

The programme will run from Wednesday - the first day back at school for learners in the Eastern Cape - until the 30th of January.
