Eastern Cape police unveil festive season operation plan


 
The SA Police Service in the Eastern Cape have unveiled their 2013 duty calls festive season operation plan at a function in Port Elizabeth.

At a full State of Readiness Parade at the Lilian Ngoyi Indoor Sports Centre in Kwazakhele on Wednesday, Police commissioner, Celiwe Binta said police would ensure that lawlessnness and crime are reduced.

"We are going to make a difference in this province in term of ensuring that the lawlessness in all it's forms are reduced. We are going to ensure that crime is reduced and those who commit crime will end up behind bars"

Other activities included unroadworthy motor vehicles being inspected by police, a public participation programme and a hand over of 17 new police vehicles to Uitenhage, Mount Road and Humansdorp police stations.

Police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse Van rensburg said police have started conducting road blocks and motor roadworthy inspections throughout the Nelson Mandela Bay area.

Safety MEC Helen Sauls August said police visibility during the festive season was paramount in the fight against crime. .


"To the women and men who are going to be on duty, the public is expecting not only a show of force but visibility throughout the festive season to crack down on crime" she said.
