Eastern Cape police have arrested five people and seized several firearms they believe were going to be used by hitmen in a brewing taxi war in Lusikisiki.
Provincial police spokesperson, major Ernest Sigobe, says the weapons were seized in raids by members of the Public Order Police Units over the weekend.
He says the raids were in response to rumours of people mobilising firearms to be used to kill people on a hit list that was allegedly compiled after members of the Border Alliance Taxi Association defected to Uncedo Taxi Association.
Major Sigobe says among the weapons seized were a shotgun, two pistols and a revolver as well as a home-made firearm.
