Eastern Cape police mourn the loss of two police officials


Eastern Cape police are mourning the loss of two police officials who were killed in seperate incidents in less than 24 hours.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Sibongile Soci, says 29-year old Constable Mkhuzeni Bashe stationed at the Mthatha Mounted Unit was shot and killed on Monday.

Bashe was off duty when he and his wife were attacked by an unknown number of suspects.

Soci says the policeman was able to assist his wife in hiding but that the assailants caught up with Bashe and shot him three times in the upper body.

A 31-year old suspect was subsequently arrested and will appear in the Ngcobo Magistrates court soon on a charge of murder.

In a seperate incident, the body of 37-year old Constable Peter Mandla Dlakavu was found on Sunday at his flat in Ntlekiseni location just outside Mthatha.

Police suspect that Dlakavu was strangled to death and a murder investigation is underway.
