Eastern Cape Human Settlements MEC, Helen Sauls-August, has been serving eviction notices on people who have been illegally occupying RDP houses in Whittelsea, near Queenstown.
Sauls-August says this marks the start of the One House .. One Legal Beneficiary Campaign, which is being launched in response to the illegal occupation of RDP houses in the province.
She says many RDP housing beneficiaries are involved in these illegal activities, by either leasing or selling their low cost houses as business.
Her spokesperson, Lwandile Sicwetsha.
"The MEC is on an anti corruption campaign where she is issuing eviction notices to illegal occupants of RDP homes and those who have illegally converted these homes as taverns and shops. The process thereafter is to allow people within a 30 day period to find alternative accommodation before we can remove them from their houses" he said.
