Eastern Cape local government MEC summoned to parliament

Eastern Cape Local Government MEC, Mlibo Qoboshiyane, will join his provincial counterparts in parliament on Wednesday.

They've been summoned to appear before the portfolio Committees on Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs to explain how they intend improving on their 2010/11 audit outcomes.

This follows the Auditor-General's report which revealed that only 13 of the country's municipalities received clean audits.

According to the AG report, there was an increase in the number of municipalities which failed to meet the 31 August 2011 deadline for submission of financial statements.

The figure went up from 9 municipalities in the 2009/2010 financial year to 40 municipalities in the 2010/2011 financial year.
