Eastern Cape gears up for by-elections

The ANC and the Democratic Alliance will be going head to head in two of the four by-elections taking place in the Eastern Cape next Wednesday.

The parties will be vying for control of the Kouga Municipality, where a DA victory in the two contested wards will mean it will wrest control of the municipality from the ANC.

Kouga mayor, Booi Koerat, will be contesting Ward Five against the DA's Desmond Petersen, while the ANC's Xolile Persent will go up against the DA's Otto Williams in Ward Nine.

The DA has gone all out to win Kouga, with party leader, Helen Zille, scheduled to address a public meeting in Hankey and Humansdorp on Monday.

Meanwhile, the Independent Electoral Commission says municipal by-elections will take place in a total of eight province, where a total of 22 wards will be contested by 63 candidates representing 11 political parties.
