Convicted farm murderer Zamile Mandlakazi has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of an Eastern Cape farmer.
Sentence on 25-year-old Mandlakazi was handed down in the Makhanda High Court this week.
This follows an attack on the Highfields farm in Maclear in the early hours of the morning of 30 May 2021.
The farmer John Viege was shot in the chest and was fatally wounded.
His wife hid under the bed in their bedroom and escaped injury.
The court heard that two suspects had broken into the farmhouse and after shooting Viege, had ultimately left empty handed after being disturbed.
Detectives managed to arrest Mandlakazi, from Vincent Park in Maclear, the very next day.
He was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder, 15 years for armed robbery and 8 years for burglary.
The acting District Police Commissioner, Brigadier Asogran Naidoo, commended the meticulous and professional investigation by the investigating officer W/O Julius Mani which secured the conviction and sentence and justice for the Viege family.
