Eastern Cape education in the spotlight at ANC summit .


The ANC in the Eastern Cape will hold an all important Education Summit aimed at critically examining state of provincial education.

"The Summit is aimed at assessing the state of education in the province, develop shared understanding of the key challenges facing education, develop common agenda on the broader transformation of the provincial edcuation system, develop a framework for the development of a long term provincial education strategy, to create platform pof engagement on improving the state of education in the province between the ANC, the Alliance and the Mass Democratic Movement, the society at large, and the development of the education policy proposals ahead of the ANC policy conference," the ANC said.

It said "the summit is inspired by the not satisfactory matric results for the last acadmic year.

"Resolutions of the summit will be implemented by both the government, the ANC and its alliance partners in a bid to hastily deal with challenges facing the province."

"The ANC in the province strongly believes that, there is a need for action and not cold war, because resolving issues facing education in the province will ensure improved pass rate, ensure increased school attendance, reduce school drop out," the ANC said.

"The strategic focus areas of the conference will be early childhood development, basic education, further education and training, hiugher education, training and skills development, literacy and adult education."

"Our commitment to education is inspired by the need to develop skilled professionals who will help us fight the tripple challenges of poverty, unemployment and inequality."

Speakers billed to address the Summit include, ANC Provincial leadership, Higher Education and training Minister, Blade Nzimande, Basic Education Minister, Angie Motshekga, Cosatu Provincial chairperson, Mpumelelo Saziwa, SACP Provincial Secretary, Xolile Nqatha and the four Vice Chancellors of Universties in the province.
