A man who cloned several bank cards to steal fuel will be sentenced in the East London Regional Court in June.
The 45-year-old Khayalethu Sandile was convicted on Monday.
Police spokesperson Captain Yolisa Mgolodela says Sandile was arrested in October 2019 while driving a truck with containers full of fuel.
He’d filled them up at a petrol station in East London using a cloned card.
Captain Mgolodela says the Hawks eventually linked Sandile to several other cases.
Sandile was arrested on 7 October 2019 and made his first court appearance the next day where his bail application was turned down.
He was remanded in custody until lockdown when he was released in compliance with Covid -19 regulations.
Sandile used cloned cards encoded with account information of Standard Bank clients and his theft put them R133 000 out of pocket.
