The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality says it is investigating further interventions that will address water consumption at complexes and sectional title schemes.
The Municipality implemented phase one of the water pressure management measures where it installed a water flow restrictor disc at the premises of the top 100 water consumers in the Metro.
It has now implement phase two where a disc will be installed at establishments that use 10-15KL of water a month.
The discs will restrict excessive flow and reduce pressure to the property, without shutting down the water completely.
Executive mayor, Nqaba Bhanga says the municipality will make water flow restrictor discs available free of charge to Managing Agents and Body Corporates who have already been informed.
Bhanga says in terms of the Metro's by-laws these flats and complexes are already required to have installed individual meters per unit so the installation of the water installation disc will be a simple process.
He says the Metro has already sent notices to Managing Agents and Body Corporates in an attempt to fast track communication with these stakeholders.
"As there are multiple consumers on one (or more) municipal connections in this instance, the metro will roll out a different approach to deal with these schemes."
He said that in an exceptional circumstance whereby flats or complexes cannot install flow restrictor discs, other avenues of water-saving can be investigated.
Bhanga said an application would have to be submitted to the Executive Director of Infrastructure and Engineering with supporting evidence of a reduction in water usage and reasons why discs cannot be installed.
The combined dam levels in Nelson Mandela Bay are sitting at 11,34%.
