A warning to motorists to refrain from drinking and driving has fallen on deaf ears for some as 22 motorists were arrested in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro on Thursday night.
Metro spokesperson Kupido Baron says law enforcement held several roadblocks on Thursday and will continue to do so throughout the Easter Weekend.
He says a combined roadblock by the local traffic Department on the N2 resulted in 12 arrests for drunk driving while another 10 arrests were made at a separate roadblock.
A taxi driver was also stopped near Young Park for transporting 27 passengers in a 16-seater taxi.
Member of the Mayoral Committee for Safety and Security, Lawrence Troon, lauded the good work of the officials by stating that every drunken driver taken off the road potentially prevented an accident and saved lives.
