NSRI rescue craft JayTee IV
The body of an unidentified woman was spotted floating in the water near Belvedere on the Knysna Lagoon on Thursday.
Spokesperson for the NSRI Craig Lambinon says reports came from two tourists who are on holiday in Knysna.
He says upon arrival the woman, who was fully clothed and estimated to be in her 40's, was retrieved from the water and declared dead on the scene.
Lambinon says she was wearing a maroon top and dark long pants and it is suspected that she was fishing.
He says she remains unidentified and any person who can assist police in identifying her or help trace family members are urged to contact police.
The woman's body was taken into the care of the Government Health Forensic Pathology services.
