An Eastern Cape Health Department driver is due to appear in court this week on a charge of drunken driving.
The police confirmed that a 37-year-old man was arrested in Unit 2 in Mdantsane on Saturday night whilst driving a state vehicle.
He is due to appear in court soon on charges of drunk driving.
Meanwhile, Health Department spokesperson, Siyanda Manana, says the arrested employee is a driver for the Nqubela TB Hospital in Mdantsane.
"It is true that one of the drivers was arrested by the police. He had no authority to operate the vehicle and he was not in a stable state at the time," she said.
The driver was taken to the nearest health facility where his blood was drawn.
The Department will also conduct an internal disciplinary process against the employee.
