Eighty-two school children were injured when a bus overturned in Malabar, Port Elizabeth on Monday afternoon.
Police warrant officer Alwin Labans says four learners, aged between 12 and 14 were seriously injured.
They underwent surgery at Livingstone HospitalMonday night.
Labans says the accident happened when the driver apparantly lost control of the bus at the intersection of Beetlestone Road and Gladioulus Road.
Labans says the driver, who runs his own privately-owned bus service, was arrested on a charge of reckless and negligent driving.
Labans also confirmed that an emergency vehicle ferrying injured children to hospital collided with a bakkie which then overturned.
19 children on the bakkie were slightly injured.
