Eastern Cape police have confirmed that a second woman who was shot and left for dead near Buffalo Pass in East London this week, has died of her wounds.
Provincial police spokesperson, Captain Khaya Tonjeni, said she died in hospital overnight.
Earlier police reported that they were investigating the shooting of two women in their fifties who were found with gunshot wounds near the Buffalo Pass Road on Tuesday night.
Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Hazel Mqala, said a woman in her fifties was killed while the second, critically wounded victim, managed to crawl to the side of the road where she was found by a passing traffic officer.
She said that the woman, who had gunshot wounds to the upper body, had been able to give the traffic offier important information, adding that a male suspect was arrested later that same evening.
Police did not formally identify the women but according to the Daily Dispatch they were Bulelwa Mpitipiti and her friend Nomboniso Ntwana, both reportedly Sangoma's
According to the newspaper the shootings were linked to an alleged jobs for cash scam at Buffalo City Municipality involving an ANC councillor for Reeston.
The councillor's husband was due to appear in court on Thursday in connection with the double shooting.
