Dozens left homeless as 'unattended paraffin stove' causes fire in EL

The Buffalo City Metro has assisted nearly 120 people whose homes were destroyed in Duncan Village, East London on Tuesday afternoon.

The Cities Metro Fire and Rescue Chief Thembile Thompson said the fire was likely caused by an unattended paraffin stove.

He said the strong winds played a part in spreading the fire at high speed.

Nobody was injured in the blaze and no fatalities recorded.

The fire broke out in the Barbaton Informal settlement.
