A 28-year-old man has been given a double life sentence for the brutal murder of 83-year-old Anne Ferreira, who was killed in her home in Summerstrand, Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) in 2018.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said Sizwe Jika was sentenced in the city’s High Court on Friday.

She said Jika was sentenced to two life terms for rape and murder, 15 years for housebreaking with intent to rob, 10 years for kidnapping and15 years for robbery with aggravating circumstances.

“All the sentences with run concurrent to the life sentence,” she said.

Naidu said Jika is currently serving a 20-year sentence imposed in 2020, for the murder of 86-year-old Anne Smit and a further 16 years for a series of housebreakings committed between 2011 and 2018.

Jika was also sentenced to life in jail last August for the 2018 murder of 26-year-old Kelly Bain.

Naidu said the second accused in Anne Ferreira’s case, Lindile Ndambade (36), will appear in court on 15 April.

Eastern Cape police commissioner, Lieutenant-General Liziwe Ntshinga, welcomed the sentences saying, “there must not be any mercy for criminals who attack defenceless and innocent women.”
