"Don't tamper with crime scenes" Saps

Police have arrested a suspect in connection with Monday's gang-related shooting in Korsten, Port Elizabeth, in which a teenager died in a hail of bullets.

Police spokesperson, warrant officer Alwin Labans, says the suspect is well known to police.

Seventeen year-old Winston Leonard, died late Monday afternoon when a gunman opened fire on him and another man.

Leonard was shot ten times.

The shooting appears to be a sequel to a weekend of gang-related violence which left four people dead and two others wounded.

Meanwhile Port Elizabeth police have issued a warning to members of the public not to disturb crime scenes.

This, after bullet casings were removed from a robbery scene at Pier 14 in Govan Mbeki Avenue and at a gang shooting on Monday afternoon.

Labans says witnesses saw people removed spent cartridges from the scene at Pier 14 on Tuesday where several men robbed a jewellery store.

One suspected robber was wounded in a subsequent shootout.

Labans says bullet casings were also removed from the scene of a gang-related shooting in Korsten.

He's also appealed to members of the public not film crime scenes and then post it social media sites, warning that they could be charged with obstruction of justice.
