Eastern Cape Premier Noxolo Kiviet has pleaded with the people of Indwe not to confuse their local leaders and the provincial government, by fighting over a new Coal Mining development.
She was addressing residents before her official count down to usher in the first in a series of major blasts, signifying the commencement of production at the Elitheni Coal Mine.
There were concerns that a small group of people were planning to disrupt the event, because they want to be recognized as a legitimate community trust.
But, on Friday afternoon community members came out in numbers - singing and dancing - saying that they have waited a long time for the Mine
The mine is expected to create 500 direct jobs in the next 12 months and this is projected to grow to around two thousand over the next five years.
