Eastern Cape police are investigating a case of murder after DNA tests confirmed that the charred remains found in Mlungisi at Queenstown, belonged to missing teenager Vuyolwethu Hemeni.
Police spokesperson, Captain Namhla Mdleleni, said DNA results released on Friday was a match for the child's mother.
She said the 14-year-old Hemeni was reported missing on Friday the 25th of August when she failed to return from school.
Mdleleni said the following day the charred remains of a young person were found and DNA tests done to confirm the victim’s identity.
Police are appealing to anyone who may have information in the murder of the young schoolgirl to contact Queenstown police.
