Emotions were high at the Port Elizabeth Magistrate's Court on Wednesday morning where the lawyer for a former police officer, Alicia Beeming, announced that he would no longer be representing her.
Sentencing proceedings in the case were subsequently halted when attorney Hennie Bence, said he had submitted an application to the court and had also informed Beeming, who at one point was seen crying, of his decision.
He told the court that he came to the decision as a result of her apparent failure to follow his instructions and missing consultation sessions, which Bence said resulted in the irretrievable breakdown of their relationship.
The 34-year-old Beeming, was found guilty of defeating the ends of justice in August last year, for concealing her relationship with a wanted gangster, Hans Jordaan, who turned out to be her boyfriend.
She is out on bail of R500 rand and is expected back in court on the 27th of this month.
