The retail sector in Port Elizabeth continues to be impacted by staff testing positive for the coronavirus.
In the latest incident, pharmaceutical retailer Dischem was forced to close its Newton Park store on Wednesday after one of its employees tested positive for the virus.
Dischem’s National Clinic Manager Lizeth Kruger told AlgoaFM News the staffer was currently self-isolating at home.
She says the moment they got the employee’s results back, they closed the Newton Park store to do a thorough fogging and de-sanitation.
This was over and above the deep clean that all Dischem stores carry out twice a day.
Kruger said every single employee of the Newton Park store will now self-isolate for the next 14 days.
She said an entirely new staff complement would now man the store when it re-opens on Thursday.
Kruger said as far as she is concerned, the most effective way of avoiding infection is to practice social distancing and regular hand-washing.
