A man suspected of hijacking a truck driver and stealing diesel from the vehicle is due to appear in court in Gqeberha on Monday.
Police said he was arrested by Swartkops police who followed up on information about "suspicious activities" at Brighton Beach on Saturday evening.
Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg said the driver of a truck was accosted on the N2 off-ramp at Commercial Road and ordered at gunpoint to drive to the beach area.
"At the beach, he was instructed to park next to an Isuzu double cab bakkie and to assist with filling up drums with the diesel from the truck. Afterward, the complainant was told that he could leave," she said.
Janse van Rensburg said SAPS members noticed the suspicious activity at the beach and upon enquiring from the truck driver they were informed about the hijacking.
She said there were three suspects involved in the hijacking and theft however police arrested one suspect, seized a bakkie, and recovered the 350 litres of stolen diesel.
He is due to appear in court this week.
