A 21-year-old man from Despatch has been sentenced to 25 years imprisonment for the attempted murder and rape of his sister.

He was sentenced in the Port Elizabeth High Court on Monday, shortly after entering a guilty plea on both counts.

NPA Regional spokesperson Anelisa Ngcakani says the victim was 15-years-old when her brother attacked her on the night of 12 July 2019 in their home in Despatch after he’d spend the day smoking drugs.

He also stabbed her in the stomach during the incident and left her for dead in the house before fleeing the scene.

The suspect was arrested on the 5th of November 2019 and has been in custody ever since.
