The Despatch Crematorium in Nelson Mandela Bay is back up and running following a fire on their premises in January which halted operations for over a month.
A director for the Crematorium Hannes Marais says it was a stressful time for undertakers in the Metro as bodies were piling up after the second wave of Covid-19 reached its peak.
He says now that all the ovens are working again, even more smoke can be seen coming from the crematorium chimneys as a result of frozen coffins being burnt with Covid bodies, that are wrapped in plastic.
The manager for the Crematorium Adriaan van Tonder says his team worked around the clock to repair the building after the roof collapsed in January.
He says they are now 100% operational and will be ready for a possible third wave of Covid-19.
