The bodyguard of Nelson Mandela Bay deputy mayor, Nancy Sihlwayi, has been wounded in a shoot-out with two robbery suspects on Monday night.
Police spokesperson, warrant officer Dumile Gwavu, says the 44-year-old man was accosted by two men in Ntungela Street in Kwazakhele.
He says the suspects drew fire-arms and a shoot-out ensued in which the bodyguard was wounded.
He is in hospital in stable condition.
Gwavu says the gunmen took the bodyguard's firearm, wallet and cellphone and are still at large.
The deputy mayor was not in the car at the time.
A case of armed robbery is being investigated.
