The Department of Basic Education says the Eastern Cape is one of two provinces that will be closely monitored during the annual national assessments.
Department spokesperson, Panyaza Lesufi, said 7.2 million learners in Grades one to six and nine in all public schools as well as Grade 3 or 6 learners in independent schools will be tested in literacy and numeracy next week.
He said the administration of the Annual National Assesment is an immense undertaking and provinces have been working around the clock to print the question papers, and ensure that they are delivered to schools.
Lesufi said the Eastern Cape and Limpopo provinces which are under administration, will be closely monitored.
