The Eastern Cape delegation to the National Council of Provinces says it has been assured that there’s no longer the threat of day zero in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality.
It also expressed its satisfaction with the efforts that have been taken to avert the threat of a water crisis in the Metro, whose main supply dams are currently at around 22.5% of total combined capacity.
The delegation visited the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality-based water and sanitation projects on Thursday to assess their implementation.
The projects that were visited were: Coegakop Water Treatment Works, Walmer Heights Connector Sewer/Driefsands Sewer Project, and Kwa-Nobuhle Water Treatment Works.
The delegation said in a statement that it was happy with the presentations it received from the project implementers, especially the fact that they will meet their implementation time frames.
The delegation heard that the intervention will yield 85 megalitres of water per day which translates into 30 per cent of the current water supply to the Metro.
